Entertaining, experimental, tongue-in-cheek. Andreas Wahl turns science into a physical experience — he risks his own body to demonstrate natural laws. Tone is humorous and approachable, but never silly. Solid science behind the entertainment. Volkspädagogik in the best sense: everyday myths tested and confirmed or debunked through experiments. Viewer invited to think along, not lectured at. Norwegian humor — dry, self-deprecating, charming.
What this format covers
●Everyday myths put to the test: Is that really true?
●Spectacular experiments that make natural laws visible
●Physics, chemistry, biology — explained through everyday life
●Health myths: nutrition, sleep, training — what does the evidence say?
●Technology in daily life: How does that actually work?
●Critical thinking: Why do we believe what we believe?
●Psychology and behavior: cognitive biases, group effects
What this format does NOT want
●Purely academic or specialist topics
●Political or investigative content
●Heavy or bleak social documentaries
●Pseudoscience or esotericism (unless as subject of debunking)
●History of science without experimental character
●Formats without visual experiment or demonstration
Visual expectations
Spectacular experiments are the visual core. Andreas Wahl hangs from bungee cords, jumps off bridges, fires rifles underwater — all to demonstrate physics. Slow-motion, high-speed cameras, unusual angles. Norwegian landscapes as experimental backdrop. Infographics and animations for explanation. Look is modern, bright, energetic. Reference: Mythbusters meets Norwegian public service — fewer explosions, more insight.

Editorial notes
Folkeopplysningen (literally: The People's Enlightenment) launched 2014 and quickly became one of NRK's most popular formats. Andreas Wahl is a physicist and the face of the show — his physical commitment in experiments is the trademark. Format has won multiple national and international awards. Friday evening slot means: competing with entertainment, not documentary. Format must therefore be accessible and fun without compromising the science. NRK produces predominantly in-house but works with Teddy TV and other Norwegian production companies. International adaptations and co-productions possible.
