Meticulous, factual, incorruptible. Uppdrag granskning is Sweden's most important investigative format — the journalistic conscience of the nation. Tone is sober-Scandinavian: no sensationalism, methodical revelation instead. The facts speak for themselves. Confrontational interviews are calm but inescapable — Swedish politeness with a steel core. The viewer is respected, not manipulated. Every claim is watertight. Transparency about methodology is part of the DNA.
Sober, Scandinavian investigative style. Documents, data visualizations, graphics. Confrontational interviews in matter-of-fact settings. On-site research with observational camera. No dramatic staging — the facts are the drama. Clear, uncluttered visual language. Undercover footage only when legally and ethically defensible. Reference: Scandinavian quality journalism — Panorama (ARD) meets Nordic aesthetics.
Editorial notes
Uppdrag granskning (UG) has run since 2001 and is by far Sweden's most influential investigative format. UG revelations have led to ministerial resignations, legislative changes, and criminal investigations. The commissioning desk works with international networks (ICIJ, EIC, OCCRP). Sweden has one of the world's strongest press freedom laws and constitutionally enshrined source protection. This gives UG special capabilities. External pitches must meet the high evidentiary standard — the Redaktion vets every proposal intensively. Co-productions with other Nordic investigative teams (NRK Brennpunkt, DR Kontant) are common. SVT typically produces in-house but works with freelance journalists and specialized production companies.
